2 most under-developed hockey skills

2 most under-developed skills in hockey: Passing & Checking. Most are aware of how important we believe improving & progressing puck movement skills are. An argument can be made that no puck skills matter, if we can’t get it back.

Something not focused on enough at any level, down to U9, is checking skills. Are we doing a good enough job teaching:

πŸ‘‰πŸ» Stick positioning
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Angling
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Timing & Spacing
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Stick on puck
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Taking away hands/hips
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Neutral possession support
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Body Positioning
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Plays upon gaining possession
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Giving and Receiving Body Contact (when applicable)

Things that don’t get a lot of attention on social media, but matter if you want to be a puck possession team. You will not stick at higher levels if you are unable to check properly. If we are able to get the puck back quickly, we will get to express our puck skills, and spend more time in the offensive zone.
